Rapid transformation – Creating the new norm.
As we all come to terms with the changes in our day-to-day business and personal lives due to COVID-19 (COVI the acronym of coronavirus, D for the word disease and 19 for the year of the outbreak), the most pressing issue across the world today is creating solutions and initiatives to combat this dangerous virus. We are witnessing a revolution in the way people processes and technology are being brought together to provide solutions to the pandemic.
This blog celebrates some of the good things that are emerging from the pandemic that will have a profound impact on the way we live our lives.
Who said changing the way we do things takes time! Innovations are appearing every day across all spectrums. Below are some examples illustrating the ingenuity and united efforts occurring around the world.
- Health:
GP’s are being encouraged to increase the number of Digital Consultations for the general public to address social distancing but maintain service delivery. Cutting back on face-to-face consultations means a rapid increase in videoconferencing technologies.
We have seen some improvements in air quality and dramatic reductions in pollution levels around the world.
Rapid reapplication of arenas into hospitals and the Chinese hospital built in six days from scratch.
The speed at which the pharmaceutical industry is developing remedies and testing vaccines as companies work globally to combat COVID-19.
- Society:
Community Spirit has not been at such a heightened state as communities come together in a common goal of protecting society by socially isolating and Staying at Home.
Reaching out to all members of society like the 8pm applause for carers and the NHS and NHS Volunteers).
Sadly we are not yet seeing reductions in major conflicts across the world for example in Syria the Middle-East and Africa but we are seeing local/regional cessations like the increasing trend of lower homicide and crime rates in cities around the world, for however long it lasts.
- Education:
The school of mum and dad and setting up home classrooms and children adapting to online education at home. Not forgetting the digitally excluded who do not have regular access to the internet at home.
- Work:
The world’s largest workplace experiment is taking place as remote / home working is being encouraged, new working arrangements implemented, assessing employee and business performance and the impact on business operating costs.
Increase in employment with record numbers seeking farming work.
- Business:
Companies are redeploying their business transformation PMO into crisis management offices.
Supermarkets and restaurants are exploring alternative operating processes to secure the food chain – Fast-food chain turns its restaurants into mini-supermarkets.
A Local company protecting products with anti-bacterial spray have adapted their offering to include sanitizing business premises to help stop the spread of the virus.
- Research & Development:
The speed at which manufacturers are pivoting to adapt their offerings.
UK government are tracking a project in Norway where Mobile data is helping to track the spread of the virus.
The proliferation of online COVID-19 Trackers for the general public to track pandemic hotspots using real-time data.
A collaboration have created a directory of hundreds of innovations and solutions globally that could support and strengthen the response to COVID-19 and connect innovators so they can collaborate on solutions.
